If you are missing one or more teeth, an implant consultation is the first step towards understanding your options. It is not a commitment to treatment. It is a chance to ask questions, find out what is possible and leave with a clear picture of the road ahead.
Before your appointment
It helps to bring:
- a list of any medication you take and details of relevant medical conditions
- any recent X-rays or treatment notes from another dentist, if you have them
- a note of the questions you would like to ask
Talking through your goals
We start by listening. Are you replacing a single tooth or several teeth, or looking for a more secure alternative to a denture? How is the gap affecting your eating, speaking or confidence? Your answers shape everything that follows.
A careful assessment
Next comes a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and bite. Dental implants rely on healthy gums and enough good-quality bone, so we look closely at both. X-rays or digital scans may be taken where clinically appropriate, and a 3D scan is sometimes recommended to assess the bone in more detail.
Your medical history matters too. Factors such as smoking, diabetes and some medications can affect healing, and we discuss them openly.
Exploring your options
Implants are not the only way to replace missing teeth, and a good consultation covers the alternatives. Depending on your situation, options may include:
- a single tooth implant supporting a crown
- an implant-supported bridge where several teeth are missing
- full mouth implants or implant-retained dentures
- a conventional bridge or denture
We explain the benefits, limitations, risks and long-term maintenance of each option, so you can make an informed decision.
How treatment is phased
Implant treatment usually happens in stages. After planning, the implant is placed in the jawbone and given time to heal and bond with the bone, which often takes a few months. Once it has integrated, the final crown, bridge or denture is fitted. Some patients need gum treatment or bone grafting first. Your written treatment plan sets out each stage, the expected timescale and the full costs.
No pressure, just a clear plan
You are never asked to decide on the day. Take the plan home, think it over and come back with any questions. Implant care at Concept Dental is led by Dr Zain, who holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry. Book your implant consultation or read more about dental implants in Stapleford.
