Air Abrasion in Stapleford
A drill-free way to remove small areas of decay, where it is suitable for your tooth.
Air Abrasion at Concept Dental
Air abrasion uses a fine stream of particles to remove small areas of decay, as an alternative to the traditional dental drill. Once the decay has been removed, the tooth is restored with a tooth-coloured filling.
It is not suitable for every tooth or every cavity, so we examine your teeth first and tell you whether it is the right option for you. You receive a written plan with confirmed prices before any treatment begins.

How Does Air Abrasion Work?
Instead of a rotating drill, a small handpiece directs a fine stream of particles at the decayed area of the tooth. This gently removes the decay so the tooth can be cleaned and filled. Because there is no drilling, there is no vibration and less noise, which some patients find more comfortable.
What Are the Benefits?
No drill vibration and less noise during treatment
More of the healthy tooth can often be kept, because only the decayed area is removed
Well suited to small cavities found early
Is Air Abrasion Right for Me?
Air abrasion is generally used for smaller areas of decay. It is usually not the right choice for:
- Larger or deeper cavities
- Replacing existing fillings
- Preparing a tooth for a crown
If air abrasion is not suitable, we explain the alternatives, such as a white filling placed in the usual way. If you feel anxious about dental treatment, read about how we help on our nervous patients page.
How Much Does Air Abrasion Cost?
The cost depends on the treatment you need. Air abrasion removes the decay, and the tooth is then restored with a white filling. White fillings start from £150, and we confirm the full price in writing before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air abrasion the same as air polish?
No. Air abrasion removes small areas of decay before a filling. Air polish is a cleaning treatment that lifts surface stains from your teeth.
Is air abrasion suitable for every tooth?
No. It is generally used for smaller areas of decay, so we examine your teeth before recommending it.
Will I need a filling afterwards?
Yes. Once the decay has been removed, the tooth is restored, most often with a white filling.
Can air abrasion help if I am nervous of the drill?
It may, if your tooth is suitable. Some patients find it more comfortable because there is no drill vibration. We also offer sedation at the practice for patients who need extra support.
Do I need an appointment first?
Yes. We need to see your teeth before we can recommend a treatment. Our dental examination is the place to start.
