What Is Emergency Dentistry?
Emergency dentistry is urgent care for problems that can’t wait for a routine appointment, such as severe toothache, facial swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, or a lost filling or crown.
Emergency appointments at Concept Dental are £50, including X-rays. Weekend and out-of-hours emergency appointments are £200, including treatment. If you’re in pain, call us on 01157 731923 rather than booking online.

Dental Emergencies We Treat
We treat urgent dental problems at our Stapleford practice, including:
- Severe toothache or facial swelling
- A knocked-out or displaced tooth
- A cracked, chipped or fractured tooth
- A lost or broken filling or crown
- A dental abscess or spreading infection
- Bleeding gums or a soft tissue injury
- A broken or ill-fitting denture causing pain or difficulty eating
If you’re not sure whether it counts as an emergency, call us. We’d always rather reassure you than have you waiting at home in pain.
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Severe pain or swelling Call us immediately. Over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen or paracetamol can help while you wait, but do not apply aspirin directly to the gum. If swelling is spreading to your face, jaw or neck, seek urgent medical attention.
Knocked-out tooth Handle the tooth by the crown only, not the root. If it is clean, try to place it back in the socket or store it in milk, and get to us as quickly as possible. The sooner it is repositioned, the better the chance of saving it.
Lost filling or crown Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. Dental wax from a pharmacy can protect a sensitive tooth. Call us to arrange a prompt appointment.
Abscess or infection This needs urgent treatment, so do not wait to see whether it settles. If you have difficulty breathing or swallowing alongside facial swelling, go to your nearest accident and emergency department immediately.
Your Emergency Appointment
Call us on 01157 731923. We will assess how urgent your situation is and arrange an appointment as quickly as possible.
We assess the problem, taking X-rays where needed, so we know exactly what is happening.
We treat the source of your pain or injury at the appointment wherever possible, whether that means draining an abscess, stabilising a fractured tooth or replacing a lost filling.
If further treatment is needed, we explain it on the day and confirm the costs in writing before your next appointment.
Support for Nervous Patients
Emergencies are especially stressful if you already find the dentist difficult. Tell us when you call and we’ll go at your pace. Sedation is available at the practice. Support for nervous patients
