When Is Root Canal Treatment Needed?
It’s needed when the pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed, which can follow deep decay, a crack or fracture, repeated dental work on the same tooth, or trauma. Symptoms to look out for include:
- Severe or persistent toothache
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold that does not settle
- A tooth that is darkening in colour
- Swelling or tenderness in the gum around a tooth
- A recurring pimple or sore on the gum
- A dental abscess or facial swelling

Your Root Canal Treatment
We examine the tooth, take X-rays and explain what we find. We confirm that root canal treatment is the right option and give you a written plan with the price.
We numb the area so you feel pressure but no sharp pain, then remove the infected tissue and clean, shape and disinfect the root canals. This is the most important stage, and we take the time it needs.
We fill and seal the canals and place a filling in the access opening to protect the tooth.
In most cases we recommend a crown afterwards to protect and strengthen the tooth. We cover this in your treatment plan so the costs are confirmed in advance.
