Gum Disease Treatment in Stapleford
Bleeding, swollen or receding gums? Early treatment protects your teeth, and hygiene appointments start from £75.
What Is Gum Disease?
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. It starts as gingivitis, with red, swollen gums that bleed when you brush, and can progress to periodontitis, where the infection spreads below the gumline and damages the bone holding your teeth in place.
Gingivitis can usually be reversed with a professional clean and better home care. Periodontitis cannot be cured, but it can be controlled with the right treatment. Hygiene appointments start from £75, and we confirm the cost of any further treatment in writing after your assessment.
Because gum disease is often painless in its early stages, regular dental examinations and hygienist appointments are the best way to catch it early.

Signs of Gum Disease
Many people don’t realise they have gum disease until it is picked up at an examination. Signs to look out for include:
- Gums that bleed when you brush or clean between your teeth
- Red, swollen or tender gums
- Persistent bad breath
- Loose teeth, or teeth that seem to have shifted
- Gums that look like they are receding
- A change in the way your teeth bite together
If you notice any of these, book an appointment promptly. Contact us and we’ll carry out a thorough assessment.
How We Treat Gum Disease
Gingivitis This early stage is reversible. A professional clean at a hygiene appointment, together with personalised advice on home care, usually resolves it.
Periodontitis More advanced gum disease is treated with root surface debridement, a careful deep clean below the gumline that removes bacteria and hardened deposits from the tooth roots. It is carried out under local anaesthetic, often over more than one appointment, and is followed by regular hygiene appointments to keep the condition stable.
Your Gum Disease Treatment
We assess your gums, measure the depth of the pockets around your teeth and take X-rays where needed. We explain what we find and what it means for your treatment.
We show you how to look after your gums at home, because treatment only lasts if bacteria are kept under control between appointments.
We carry out professional cleaning. For gingivitis this is a hygiene appointment, and for periodontitis it is root surface debridement under local anaesthetic.
We review how your gums have responded and set up a maintenance plan with regular hygiene appointments to keep the condition stable.
Gum Disease and General Health
Untreated gum disease has been linked to wider health conditions, including diabetes and heart disease, so treating it protects more than your teeth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can gum disease be cured?
Gingivitis is fully reversible with professional treatment and good home care. Periodontitis cannot be cured, but it can be controlled and stabilised with treatment and long-term maintenance.
Is gum disease treatment painful?
Root surface debridement is carried out under local anaesthetic. You may feel some tenderness or sensitivity for a few days afterwards, which settles quickly. We go at a pace you are comfortable with.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on the severity. Mild gingivitis may settle after one or two hygiene appointments, while periodontitis needs a course of treatment followed by ongoing maintenance. We give you a clear plan at your assessment.
How much does gum disease treatment cost?
Hygiene appointments start from £75. The cost of any further treatment depends on what you need, and we confirm it in writing after your assessment. Our membership plans, from £9.99 a month, include hygiene visits. See our fees page
I haven't been to the dentist for a long time. Is it too late?
